At Work teams elevated by sponsors

What do you get when you mix 80 teams with fitness sponsors like ours? You get camaraderie, that's what!

The teams have grown closer through this challenge, and our sponsor activities are giving them a platform to share the experience of weight loss.

When asked about his team's participation in sponsor activities, Team Captain John Brooks of Tempco team SlimPossible says, "A couple of our teammates are very competitive. Matt will be attending seven or more sponsored activities during this challenge. We have a fun team and get along well. We truly enjoy each other's company. Each of us works in different departments. Our team is on the same page. We are attending activities that we are interested in - not just attending to get the card signed."

Team captain Blythe Marinelli and her team, The Heavy Hitters from The Salvation Army Central Territory, are new to the challenge this year and they are a force to be reckoned with. The Heavy Hitters have already attended the Nutritional Workshop at the Elk Grove Park District, a diabetes workshop offered by Amita, Healthy Cooking with Monique, and two of the members will be starting the Dick Pond Walk2Run program this week.

Blythe says, "This has been so exciting to see how everybody has gotten onboard with this challenge and we are becoming good friends. Other people in the office are starting to notice and I think a lot of people wish that they were doing it with us!"

In addition to friendships being formed, the teams are making discoveries about healthy food through sponsored nutritional classes. Team member Laura Burkhart of eTeam from EMKAY attended the Healthy Cooking with Monique at Cooking Skills Academy in Itasca and is already changing how she views new, healthier foods.

"I am excited to make my own almond milk, the Thai dish, as well as the chocolate mousse. I also cooked with coconut oil for the first time this week. I was always afraid that my food would taste like coconut and that is not the case. I didn't tell my husband that I didn't use olive oil and he didn't even notice!"

Our sponsors are proud to help the teams through their journey of the Fittest Loser At Work challenge, and hope that the challenge is completed with a positive and more educated outlook toward fitness and eating well.
