Baseball: St. Charles North wins opener in Myrtle Beach
St. Charles North scored 7 runs in the top of the seventh inning Saturday night and went on to beat Pickerington (OH) North 7-3 in the North Stars' baseball season opener at the Ripken Experience in Myrtle Beach, S.C.
Brenden Norberg, who doubled, and Connor Bizik each drove in 2 runs for SCN while Tyler Mettetal and Steve Hamer each had RBI as well.
Brennett Christiansen picked up the win on the mound in relief of Ryan Litavecz.
Geneva 10, Hampshire 0: In its first game of the day in downstate Jacksonville the Vikings got a combined 2-hitter from Dominic Guido and Matthew Evert. Gudio, who went 3 innings and struck out 4 with no walks, also had 3 hits at the plate including a double, triple and 2 RBI while Evert added 2 hits and an RBI to his 2 innings on the mound. Cullen Geary had a triple and an RBI and Noah Davison added a double for the Vikings. Ben Carcellos and Trevor Lattin had Hampshire's only hits.
Geneva 12, Payton 1: Noah Davison had 3 hits with a home run and 5 RBI as the Vikings (3-0) rolled to a win in their second game of the day in Jacksonville. Josh Rose added a triple and 2 RBI for Geneva while Ian Hansen had 2 RBI. Sean Sinisko was the winning pitcher, going 3 innings and allowing 2 hits with 6 strikeouts and 1 walk.
Hampshire 3, Maine East 0: Matt Jachec went 5 innings and allowed just 1 hit with 5 strikeouts and 2 walks as the Whip-Purs (2-2-1) won this game in downstate Jacksonville. He also had a double, while Carter Lawler drove in a run.
