Girls track and field: BG's Carr accelerates to second place in Top Times meet

Buffalo Grove junior Nya Carr took second in the 60-meter dash (7.60) in the Illinois Prep Top Times Classic on Saturday at Illinois Wesleyan's Shirk Center.

The meet gathers many of the state's top girls track and field athletes together in an unofficial state championship setting.

Schaumburg junior Maddie Marasco ran to fifth place in the 800 run (2:19.28), and Stevenson junior Isabelle Sparreo placed fourth in the 1,600 run (5:03.26).

In the 3,200, Grant's Danielle Osmon was fifth (11:02.18) and Hersey senior Hailey Bowes was sixth (11:04.81).

Warren senior Abena Atuobi placed fourth in the shot put with a throw of 42 feet, 5 inches.

Wheeling grabbed second place in the 4 x 400 relay, as Ayana Blair, Alexis Knight, Yailene Leon and Emily Lucas finished in 4:03.93.

In the 4 x 800 relay, both Hersey and Fremd finished near the top.

The Huskies' Nataly Ahon, Teagan Beckely, Hailey Bowes and Janine Boyan were third in 9:32.85, and Fremd's Marisa Ban, Kailyn Bryk, Emily Chernich and Bethany Ekwonwa took fourth in 9:36.52 to edge out Prospect (9:37.80).

Class 2A: St. Viator senior Elizabeth Drab won the 400 dash by nearly a full second, finishing in 56.06. She also placed second in the 200 dash (25.22) by one one-hundredth of a second, and also claimed fourth in the 60 dash (7.83).

Vernon Hills junior Jordyn Bunning placed seventh in the 60 hurdles (9.30), and the Cougars had a seventh-place effort from Lauren Katz in the 1,600 run (5:16.49).
