One hospitalized after Carol Stream house fire

A house fire Friday afternoon in Carol Stream left one person hospitalized and a family displaced, officials say.

The Carol Stream Fire District responded at 1:43 p.m. to the fire on the 1400 block of Appomattox Trail and found heavy fire in the garage that was spreading into the home. The fire was extinguished quickly, officials said.

One occupant was home at the time of the fire and exited safely but was later taken to a hospital and is in good condition, firefighters said.

There was heavy fire damage throughout the home; the cause of the fire is under investigation.

Companies assisting Carol Stream were Bloomingdale, Hanover Park, Wheaton, West Chicago, Winfield, Glenside and Bartlett.
