Baseball: Brownley will succeed Huber at Hersey

Walter Brownley, an English teacher and 11-year assistant baseball coach Hersey, has been named to succeed Bob Huber beginning next season.

Huber is retiring from teaching after this year.

Hersey baseball has been a consistent performer and one of the most competitive and steady programs at the school under Huber and the man who preceded him, Harvey Foster.

"We are excited to hire another excellent coach to lead our program," said Hersey athetic director Steve Messer. "Bob's influence is all over Wally's resume and skill set."

In addition to his service at Hersey, Brownley played four years at Augustana College and was a three-year varsity player for coach Paul Groot at Schaumburg High School.

"Coach Brownley clearly displayed his confidence and preparation during our interviews," said Messer. "I am confident he can seamlessly continue the fine work coach Huber has done, while putting his own unique style on our program."
