Suburban Chicago man sentenced in beating of bicyclist

CHICAGO (AP) - An Illinois judge has given a suburban Chicago man a 12-year prison term for attempted murder and aggravated battery in the beating of an unconscious man after the two fought.

A Kane County State's Attorney's Office statement describes how a passer-by saw Darnell Wynn, of Aurora, beating the victim in a street in 2015. He yelled, "Stop! You've won! You'll kill him!"

Prosecutors say Wynn and a girlfriend were at an intersection in Aurora when the victim rode by on his bike. The now 56-year-old Wynn and the bicyclist exchanged words and then began a fist fight. Wynn continued to punch the man 20 times and stomped on his head 22 times after he'd already lost consciousness. The victim was hospitalized for months.

Circuit Judge Donald Tegeler sentenced Wynn Friday.
