How an expert would make it better
A small space like this can easily be updated in a cost effective way, said Mike Warren, workplace culture consultant for Rieke Office Interiors (ROI) of Elgin.
At Rieke, they walk into many companies that look just like Tessendorf Mechanical Services. Office renovations are sometimes not a priority for businesses that may focus time and money on other aspects of the company, from website design to equipment to service vehicles.
In this case, a table would have to be scaled properly for the room. Ergonomic chairs that could actually be used would be a huge improvement to what is being there now.
In addition, storage space would be a necessity.
Technology will take this room from the 1970s to 2020, Warren says.
Paint on the walls to compliment the colorful seating will add inspiration and set the conference room apart from the competition, he added.
Today's wide ranging workforce has a higher expectation of their environment. Baby Boomers were looking for a career and a place to settle in and retire. Today's workforce is much different. There are five generations in the workforce today and by 2020 the largest segment will be the millennials. If you don't have a workplace environment and strategy to attract and embrace that workforce, your company will be left behind.
