Oakton to host international film festival
Travel the globe without leaving your seat through Oakton Community College's 30th Modern Language Film Fest.
Eleven movies have been selected to showcase the wide range of languages offered by the college. Screenings are free, running March 27-30 at the Des Plaines (1600 E. Golf Road) and Skokie (7701 N. Lincoln Ave.) campuses.
Sponsored by Oakton's Office of Access, Equity, and Diversity and by the Department of Modern Languages, this year's selections include:
• "Altiplano" (Spanish, 2009): A former war photographer and her physician husband are caught up in a riot in an Andean village when locals vent their unhappiness with contamination from a nearby mine.
• "Carte Blance" (Polish, 2015): Based on a true story, this movie focuses on a middle-aged high school history teacher who - fearing he might lose his job and his dignity - decides to hide the fact that he's losing his eyesight.
• "The Wind Rises" (Japanese, 2013): This award-winning, animated film portrays the life of a Japanese aviation engineer whose lifelong love of flight inspired a storied career, including the creation of the A6M World War II fighter plane commonly known as the Zero.
