Chicago Hope defeats Newark for 1A boys 3rd-place title

PEORIA, Ill. (AP) - Jordan Doss scored 20 points and Ajani Parker and Javion May added 12 each as Chicago Hope knocked off Newark, 60-46, for third place at the IHSA boys state basketball championships on Saturday.

Doss had eight points in the first half as Hope (29-4) trailed 29-28. The Eagles however went on a 13-4 run in the third quarter, fueled by six points from Doss, to take a lead they never relinquished. The Eagles made nine steals converting them into 19 points overall.

The Norsemen (28-6) hit just two of 11 3-point attempts in the second half after making 5-of-9 in the first half.

Cameron Myre, who hit five 3-pointers, and Will Clausel both scored 19 to lead Newark.

Justin Rodriguez hit three 3-pointers for his nine points and May added seven rebounds, four steals and four assists for the Eagles.
