2 teens, man shot to death in St. Charles
Two teenage girls and a man are dead and a woman was taken to a hospital after they were shot Friday inside a St. Charles condominium, police say.
Police think the shootings were a case of domestic violence and do not believe there is any danger to the public, according to Deputy Chief David Kintz.
Officers were called to a condominium complex on the 400 block of South First Street around 5 p.m. after several 911 calls - including one from inside the condo - about shots fired, Kintz said.
When police entered the apartment, they found three people dead - a man and two teenage girls - and a woman was hurt, Kintz said. The woman was taken to Delnor Hospital in Geneva.
Police would not comment on who fired the gun or identify the victims. Kintz added. The shooting is still under investigation.
A memorial, started Friday night by grief-stricken teenagers, grew this morning as friends and neighbors placed flowers and candles on a bench near the condominium complex. Three wooden crosses are in front of the bench.
"The greatest person I've met yet," one sign said in tribute to one of the victims. Friends said the young victims were twins who attended St. Charles East High School.
Ronan Macaluso described the girls as "very energetic people. Very outgoing. Very helpful around school. Involved in the community."
"Everyone around here is devastated," Macaluso said. "My heart goes out to the families and all of her close friends."
Jason Kuta said he had a class with one of the twins.
"She was always super nice and was a really good person," he said.
