Is there a particular issue that motivates you, and if so, what is it?Lived in the community for 50 years and have benefitted from the education I received. Want to ensure that the District continues to provide the same high quality education. No particular issue. What do you think about the process for measuring student success in your district? Is it adequate? What changes, if any, do you propose? The process is adequate. Each student is unique, we must measure achievement against standard benchmarks concurrently with measuring improvement over a given period of time.District 211 became nationally recognized for both its disagreement with the federal government and its subsequent written agreement over the handling of transgender students' locker room access. How would you characterize your own agreement or disagreement with the board's action? What would be your position on the board's future handling of such issues?I agree with the board's action as indicated by my vote. I support handling issues in a way that accommodates the rights of all people without infringing upon the rights of other people. What budget issues will your district have to confront and what measures do you support to address them? If you believe cuts are necessary, what programs and expenses should be reduced or eliminated? On the income side, do you support any tax or fee increases? The district always faces choices about how to most effectively and efficiently operate. I support continuously evaluation of current programs and the search for new and innovative ideas and methods to improve the quality of education or efficiency by which we deliver education. I do not believe cuts are necessary. I support inflationary increases in the levy and fees. What role can and should school choice play in your district? If Congress or the state approves a voucher system or other means giving students broader choices among public and private schools, how will that affect your district? What is the appropriate response for the board of education of a public school system?People should always be free to choose. The choices should be equitable. If a voucher system is approved I hope the mandates on public and private schools are the same. If the mandates are the same, I welcome competition. District 211 schools complete well against any school. The appropriate response for the board of education of a public school system is to advocate for the highest quality of education the public is willing to support and then deliver it, stably and sustainably. What other issues, if any, are important to you as a candidate for this office?Long run success of our community. Please name one current leader who most inspires you.Mario GabelliWhat is the biggest lesson you learned at home growing up?Not to give upIf life gave you one do-over, what would you spend it on?I wouldn't, I would save it.What was your favorite subject in school and how did it help you in later life?Economics. Taught me how to think in a multivariate world. If you could give your children only one piece of advice, what would it be?Make sure you are headed in the right direction.
