Is there a particular issue that motivates you, and if so, what is it?I have lived in St. Charles my entire life. As I was growing up, I reaped the benefits of the wonderful parks we have in St. Charles. I've seen first-hand the impact a great park system can have on the community. I spent countless hours of my childhood at some of the best parks in the area, such as East Side Sports Complex, James O. Breen Community Park, Langum Park, Lincoln Park, and Pottawatomie Park to name a few. Furthermore, my first job in high school was working part-time as a boat attendant at Boy Scout Island. Growing up, I was always involved in sports and other recreational activities offered through St. Charles Park District. Those childhood experiences were very influential on my upbringing, and they would not have been possible without access to the many wonderful park facilities we have in St. Charles. As an adult, I continue to utilize the bike trails and recreational facilities offered by the Park District. Now that I have taken up permanent residence in St. Charles, I want to ensure that our parks and park facilities continue to improve and remain well-maintained and preserved so that future generations may enjoy them as much as I have throughout my life as a resident of St. Charles. How do you assess the state of the district's finances? What, if any, changes do you propose to alter the district's financial picture, whether through cost reduction or revenue increases? Please be as specific as possible on where you would propose cutting or how you would propose increasing revenue. The district has run on a balanced budget for the past several years and has operated within the tax cap. The district needs to continue to prudently allocate resources to stay within the tax cap. One way to keep labor costs under control for the park district would be to encourage volunteerism whenever possible. If volunteers could complete some of the work the district must currently pay for, it would allow resources to be allocated elsewhere. We could also look at cooperating with other park districts to run joint programs to share costs. What programs aren't paying for themselves? Would you keep, eliminate or change them? How and why?I have no specific knowledge of any programs that aren't paying for themselves currently. Generally, my philosophy would be that most programs should be self-supporting. However, there would be exceptions to that rule, particularly as it relates to special needs or senior programs. Are there any unmet recreational needs? If yes, what are they and how would you propose paying for them?St. Charles Park District is one of the most respected park districts in the state, and this is due in part to the high-quality facilities and programs it provides. Although I am not aware of any unmet needs at this time, the key for the district would be to continue to upgrade and maintain its current facilities and programs to maintain its reputation. If you are a newcomer, what prompted you to run for the park board? If you're an incumbent, list your accomplishments or key initiatives in which you played a leadership role. When I graduated from law school, I decided to make St. Charles my permanent home. I am running for park board because it is a great opportunity to give back to the community and the residents of St. Charles. I have experienced first-hand the impact a great park system can have on the community. I chose to live in St. Charles after law school because of the wonderful sense of community we have. The park system is a major contributor to that. As a younger member of the community, I can offer a unique insight into improving the quality of our parks and recreation facilities in St. Charles. As a permanent resident of St. Charles, I have a vested interest in the community. If elected to the park board, I will be committed to improving the quality of life of the residents of St. Charles. What other issues, if any, are important to you as a candidate for this office?Candidate did not respond. Please name one current leader who most inspires you.My father, John Hoscheit, is most inspirational to me.
