I have lived in Mettawa since 1989 when I first owned a horse farm and lived under one of the first Special Use Permit. I have many years of historical knowledge about the village.What is your opinion of your community's present level of local sales and property taxes? Is the tax just right, too low or too high? Explain.Just right. The Village has not levied a sales tax. Our Property tax It hasn't changed in 15+ years. Sales tax revenue from our few commercial enterprises is very healthy.Rate the efficiency of your town's police and fire coverage. Are the departments well prepared for the next decade? What, if anything, should be changed? Do you have specific public safety concerns?We have no actual Police and Fire Department.We do hire a private security service as well as having a contract with the Lake County Sheriff Department and Libertyville and Riverwoods provides Fire protection.Where, if anywhere, could the current budget be trimmed, and conversely, are there areas the budget does not give enough money to?At this point I think our budget is fine.What is one good idea you have to better the community that no one is talking about yet?Better supervision and monitoring of the Equestrian activity and the large barns/boarding facilities in our village. We pride ourselves as a horse friendly community.What other issues, if any, are important to you as a candidate for this office?I would like to continue to promote our rural atmosphere in our Village and also continue to purchase any available land to preserve for Open Space in Mettawa. I would continue to manage the finances in the healthy ways we have been doing as well as continue to afford to issue the Tax Rebate to our residents.Please name one current leader who most inspires you.Paul RyanWhat is the biggest lesson you learned at home growing up?To Defend my beliefs and uphold the truthsIf life gave you one do-over, what would you spend it on?I wouldn't change a thing because we learn through our mistakes and failures.What was your favorite subject in school and how did it help you in later life?English and the method of the teacher to inspire me to learn to write and gave the ability to write a memoire .If you could give your children only one piece of advice, what would it be?It is better to be disliked for who you are than to be liked for who you are not.
