While I can not and will not make any promise that can not be kept, I will certainly do the best job that I can for the community which I serve! What is your opinion of your community's present level of local sales and property taxes? Is the tax just right, too low or too high? Explain.I think our sales tax percentage is apropriate for the area and does not need to be addressed at this time. While I agree with most, our property taxes are way too high. There are 2 ways to lower property taxes: Cut or eliminate services and/or eliminate taxing bodies. I am unwilling to give up any of the services that we receive from any of our taxing bodies and I am very proud of both District 46 and High School District 127 for their successes and rankings, however, until our school districts learn to better use the dollars that they receive, as approximately 75% of our real estate taxes go to our local schools (including College of Lake County) we will continue to see the very high real estate tax bills.Rate the efficiency of your town's police and fire coverage. Are the departments well prepared for the next decade? What, if anything, should be changed? Do you have specific public safety concerns? Our village is served by The Grayslake Police Department. While I am a village resident who was against outsourcing our police services a few years back, it is absolutely more cost effective to outsource and while there have been some issues, I believe that the Grayslake Police Department does a good job overall! For fire services, our village is protected by both The Grayslake Fire Protection District and The Greater Round Lake Fire Protection District. Other than some confusion as to which department covers which areas, both departments do exceptional work!Where, if anywhere, could the current budget be trimmed, and conversely, are there areas the budget does not give enough money to?I believe that our finance committee and board has done a good job with our budget. Obviously, if we start to better focus on economic development (one of my focuses), some changes to our existing budget may be required to allow for the changes. What is one good idea you have to better the community that no one is talking about yet?The definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over but expecting different results! While economic development ideas have been brought to the tables for recent discussions, I have not yet noticed any really different ideas in an effort to bring development to the area. Most keep referring to new retail. With a population of approximately 4000 and under 1500 residential units, I believe that we do not have a large enough base to bring additional retail to the area at this time. To build a base, I think we need to focus on light industrial and commercial type parks in the south area of our village as well as possibly annexing unincorporated areas that border our village. We have train tracks that run through the village, a small, private airport in unincoporated Grayslake (adjacent to the village), and have to consider the possibility of the IL53 north extension and the IL120 bypass currently being studied by The IL Toll Authority all of which can be utilized to assist with our visions. This can help to create the base thus bringing additional retail not to mention jobs and revenue to the area. What other issues, if any, are important to you as a candidate for this office? Our village has been slow to adopt economic development options as well as developing plans for, and maintaining our existing infrastructure. I am not sure on what can or can not be accomplished to change either of the above issues, however, I do know that if we, as a village, continue to do the same thing as we have been doing for at least the previous 19 years, we will not see any real changes. Please name one current leader who most inspires you.Governor Scott Walker of Wisconsin as he has done a good job of attempting to eliminate government waste. What is the biggest lesson you learned at home growing up?Taking care of yourself and your family first as they are the ones that you should be able to always count on.If life gave you one do-over, what would you spend it on?I would probably go back to my youth and work on getting along better with my sisters from when we were growing up!What was your favorite subject in school and how did it help you in later life?My favorite subject was computers as it has propelled me into the communications industry that I now focus on.If you could give your children only one piece of advice, what would it be?Do everything with passion and help others in need! If you believe in yourself, others will believe in you as well.
