My experiences in education, administrative roles and law enforcement enable me to contribute to conversations and decisions as a Village of Volo Trustee. I regularly attend Village Board meetings to stay as informed as possible and currently serve on the Planning and Zoning Commission. Volo is a growing community and I want to be a part of the conversations and actions that move Volo forward. What is your opinion of your community's present level of local sales and property taxes? Is the tax just right, too low or too high? Explain. The present level of sales tax is appropriate for a village of our size. The Village has raised the property taxes a minor amount for the Lake Michigan water project. These small raises will ease the future cost of this project.Rate the efficiency of your town's police and fire coverage. Are the departments well prepared for the next decade? What, if anything, should be changed? Do you have specific public safety concerns?Volo currently does not have its own Police Department or Fire Department. We are serviced by two fire protection districts, Wauconda and Fox Lake. Services are efficient thanks to the location of fire stations. For Police services, we contract with the Lake County Sheriff's Department for 16 hours. This coverage needs to be expanded to 24-hour coverage. As Volo grows both services will need to be critically evaluated and balanced as measured by need and cost.Where, if anywhere, could the current budget be trimmed, and conversely, are there areas the budget does not give enough money to?The current budget appears to be fiscally responsible. What is one good idea you have to better the community that no one is talking about yet?Asking for a Recommendation for Proposal (RFP) from the Lake County Sheriff's Department and surrounding Police Departments for 24-hour police services in our community. What other issues, if any, are important to you as a candidate for this office?Candidate did not respond. Please name one current leader who most inspires you.Candidate did not respond. What is the biggest lesson you learned at home growing up?If you are going to do something, give 100%, do it right. If life gave you one do-over, what would you spend it on?Candidate did not respond. What was your favorite subject in school and how did it help you in later life?I liked almost everything.
