Prior to serving on the Village Board, I was on the Planning and Zoning Committee.These experiences, along with my 9+ years as a resident of Volo, my background in business, and involvement with the Board of Directors for Junior Achievement make me the best candidate.What is your opinion of your community's present level of local sales and property taxes? Is the tax just right, too low or too high? Explain.Our village tax rate in Volo is appropriate. The property taxes are just right as we continue to plan for Lake Michigan water, with anticipation that the State of Illinois may freeze property tax rates. We may be able to save our residents money in the long-term with this approach.Rate the efficiency of your town's police and fire coverage. Are the departments well prepared for the next decade? What, if anything, should be changed? Do you have specific public safety concerns?Having our services provided by the Lake County Sheriff's Department has been a solid arrangement. As the village evolves, this should be an area to explore to ensure the department can continue to meet our residents' needs.Our fire needs are met wonderfully by the Wauconda and Fox Lake Fire Protection Districts.Where, if anywhere, could the current budget be trimmed, and conversely, are there areas the budget does not give enough money to?In my opinion, the Board has done a fantastic job of looking forward to establish a fiscally responsible budget that meets the needs of our residents.What is one good idea you have to better the community that no one is talking about yet?I will work with the surrounding Park Districts to explore fostering better opportunities for our residents.What other issues, if any, are important to you as a candidate for this office?Balancing the rapid residential growth with the commercial property and open-space.Please name one current leader who most inspires you.Candidate did not respond.What is the biggest lesson you learned at home growing up?Be honest with others and yourself.If life gave you one do-over, what would you spend it on?Candidate did not respond.What was your favorite subject in school and how did it help you in later life?U.S. History - if you don't know history, you are bound to repeat it.If you could give your children only one piece of advice, what would it be?Don't worry about what others may think about it.
