Is the fight against it realistic at this point. Please explain. After moving into Algonquin in 1997 I made myself with many of our residents, to be aware and spoke openly at public meetings of the controversial Traffic Projects, the Northern Bridge Bypass, the Western (route 31) Bypass and the Longmeadow Parkway Bridge Corridor (formerly Boltz Bridge Corridor). The Mchenry County Board decision to proceed with the Western Bypass basically killed the Northern Bypass. But with both counties, Mchenry/Kane, working to achieve traffic congestion relieve on Routes 62 and 72 in northern Kane County, I was in favor of the Longmeadow Parkway Bridge Corridor. I ran on that position in 2003 before and after being elected Trustee in 2005. With further studies on regional transportation for this region and the opening of the Western Bypass in 2014 the need for a bridge crossing remains. After many Kane County Department of Transportation meetings and further investigative studies had showed the same. We currently have the 2016 Federal Highway of Transportation 2nd finding "of no significant impact on the environment" and the Corp of Engineers imminent approval forthcoming, therefore I feel the fight against this project is not realistic. Many municipalities are met with the challenge of maintaining steady revenue streams while trying to lower the tax burden on businesses and property owners. How has the village handled that balancing act so far, and how would you improve/maintain that situation? It's a delicate tightrope to maintain our budget these days, just as many of our homeowners do likewise. Our 2016/17 budget is approximately $45 million. We carry a high quality investment grade AAA from Standard and Poor's and receive about $0.06 of every $1.00 paid in property taxes. Thanks to our Staff and Village Board we have learned together to foster a lean budget since 2008. We are fortunate having steady sales tax revenues from our retail businesses to use within our budget. Algonquin Village Board unanimously approved lowering our 2016 tax levy by 2.3% which is below the 2008 level. We will continue to look for viable retail opportunities to increase our sales tax revenues to keep our residents taxes low. In the past year alone we had 25 new businesses that opened in Algonquin, such as Nordstrom Rack, Sleep Number, Buona Beef, Duncan Donuts, Art Van Furniture, Thorntons Gas Station to name a few. As well Clarendale of Algonquin brings another senior style living within our own community. How do you envision the village developing economically over the next several years, and where in the village should officials be focusing their efforts?I envision expanded growth opportunities on the east side along route 62 and our business campus off Boyer Road. We have heard interest from developers for the old Brunswick Zone and other nearby properties. Our community development staff will be putting their best effort to bring this back to the Village. Likewise we will need to focus more on the empty storefronts like Butera and other business complexes like those along Harnish Drive, some surrounding strip malls and further retail development along Randall Road. If the economy surges ahead we should have better opportunities moving forward.Describe your plans for maintaining/improving the village's downtown district. Our downtown district is currently undergoing full comprehensive engineering studies for our Downtown Revitalization Plan. With the Western 31 Bypass open we now control Main Street. These downtown improvements will include underground water, sewer and storm water systems upgrades and streets/sidewalks improvements. We have involved our downtown businesses participation as it is essential to have a good working relationship moving ahead. This is a full revitalization plan, not just a cosmetic makeover. It includes access to and for recreational opportunities along the Fox River. Our Village is working with the Village of Carpentersville, Mchenry County Conservation, Kane County Forest Preserve District and Chicago Metropolitan Agency (Planning) to achieve these goals. Completion of this immense project will energize further interest for business growth, entertainment venues for our residents and out of towners to enjoy Algonquin as a destination point of interest.Where in the village's budget, if anywhere, could expenses be trimmed? And on the other hand, should the budget allot more money toward any particular area, service or village department? As mentioned earlier our Village Budget is comprehensive in scope and receives its full attention from myself as well as the full board. Our staff has done a fine job providing us the information to help us determine our Village priorities. Never the less I always will challenge our Manager and Staff on issues and concerns I may have for our residents, on our spending and allocation of funds for the many projects, such as our aging infrastructure needs, roads, parks and forestry, and public works. As your elected official it is my responsibility to prioritize the Village daily and large planning needs, and any unforeseen situations that can arise, that will ensure our taxpayers dollars are spent wisely. What other issues, if any, are important to you as a candidate for this office?I have a firm belief our Downtown Revitalization Plan and us addressing the Village's transportation needs will bring a favorable economic impact to Algonquin and the surrounding region. One must recognize that Algonquin is the front door opening to both Kane and Mchenry Counties. I as your elected official will analyze all the facts and work to understand our entire Village's needs regarding transportation, housing, the environment, water quality, open space issues, the opportunities for creating new jobs all are important to maintain our quality of life. I encourage and embrace our residents to come to our Village meetings to share their views or challenge our perspectives. We all can then have a better understanding on the Village's plans and issues we all face going forward. Please name one current leader who most inspires you.Pam Althoff, our Illinois State SenatorWhat is the biggest lesson you learned at home growing up?Think before you speakIf life gave you one do-over, what would you spend it on?4 year college degreeWhat was your favorite subject in school and how did it help you in later life?Knowing math, helps me perform my job in Mechanical Sales Applications and general everyday financial challenges, planning and maintaining our household budget. If you could give your children only one piece of advice, what would it be?The same as I learned when being raised, think before you speak.
