Is there a particular issue that motivates you, and if so, what is it?The attainment of skills and higher education of residents is among key elements to growth, raising incomes, and enhancing quality of life for the community of McHenry County. Doing so efficiently and effectively as possible with the resources residents and students can afford is critical. Combining this with looking at how MCC provides its students support for academic success, clarity in career options and visibility of the school's success in helping them achieve their objectives are my main motivation for this office. In tough economic times, many students (and working professionals) turn to a community college for its educational value. How do you ensure that a person's financial sacrifice results in an educational benefit?First, I would like to suggest the frame of reference for a student is that they are investing in themselves, as opposed to making a financial sacrifice. Success will take much more than the financial outlays. Some students looking to attend MCC will have clear goals, whether for certification of certain skill sets, establishing the foundation for attaining a higher degree, or personal enhancement and enjoyment of learning. Some will not be so clear about their objectives and will look for what resonates. Differentiating counseling and guidance to each of these types of students will be important to their understanding of what they are undertaking and thereby enhance the degree of their achievement. From the college's point of view, what budget issues will your district have to confront and what measures do you support to address them? If you believe cuts are necessary, what programs and expenses should be reduced or eliminated? On the income side, do you support any tax or fee increases? At this time I do not anticipate a need for increases in taxes and fees.Community colleges provide many services to a diverse population. Is there a service your college should be providing that it is not, or reaching a segment of the population that it is not?Given "services" to be provided means diversity of educational programs and content, I believe MCC offers a sufficient array of choices. If you are a newcomer, what prompted you to run for the community college board? If you're an incumbent, list your accomplishments or key initiatives in which you played a leadership role.My interest has developed through conversation I've had with others looking to see the best return on resources allocated by the community to MCC. I currently work in a business where a career can be significantly enhanced by attainment of certification and license. I've taught at institutions of higher education and know what it can take for a student to make the grade. The development of McHenry County residents in their education can be life altering for the individual, adds value to local business development, and enriches the community. Helping MCC do so as effectively, efficiently as possible is the overall goal. What other issues, if any, are important to you as a candidate for this office?Candidate did not respond. Please name one current leader who most inspires you.Candidate did not respond. What is the biggest lesson you learned at home growing up?Candidate did not respond. If life gave you one do-over, what would you spend it on?Candidate did not respond. What was your favorite subject in school and how did it help you in later life?Candidate did not respond. If you could give your children only one piece of advice, what would it be?Candidate did not respond.
