The importance of oaths and citizenship
In reading Ms Cox's piece on immigrants (Daily Herald - Guest View March 6), I get confused on where the entire immigrant argument is going.
I will hazard a guess that all the people Ms. Cox listed in her article were "legal immigrants" - and that they got into the United States through the process of naturalization which included taking an oath of allegiance to the United States and the Constitution.
Similarly we have elected officials who also take oaths of office to defend the country and the Constitution.
When we get into the issue of "illegal" immigrants, and sanctuary cities, it boils down to elected officials who have not followed the laws that they swore to uphold.
Similarly, the "illegal" immigants have not taken any oaths of citizenship to support the United States in any way shape or form.
So not following the laws of our land (because those laws are deemed unpopular) leads to anarchy. And anarchy puts us all at risk.
