Defending Mid-Suburban West girls water polo champion Fremd got its season started with a 17-9 victory over visiting Elk Grove on Wednesday.
Seniors Paulina Pappas and Emily Kini led the Vikings' effort with 5 goals and 3 steals apiece, while Meagan Helsdingen, Lauren Streitmatter and MJ Poss had 2 goals each and Kristina Buzuloiu scored once.
Hersey 16, Hoffman Estates 2: Juniors Katie Lindgren and Madison Burkhalter both finished with 4 goals as the visiting Huskies won by a wide margin for the second time in three days.
Barrington 17, Wheeling 1: Andrea Potgieter led the scoring effort for the host Fillies with 7 goals in MSL crossover play.
Conant 9, Buffalo Grove 1: Conant's Nia Tsoulos scored 3 goals and Olivia Olsewski had 2, along with 8 steals, as the host Cougars prevented any scoring over the final three quarters.
Prospect 12, Palatine 3: Gracie Dix scored 5 goals and Colleen Doyle had 4 as the defending MSL East champs started their season with a victory.
Ashley Helminski scored three times for Palatine.
Maine West 15, Rolling Meadows 7: Kristen Burger (9 goals) and Anastasiya Sahayda (3) paced the effort for the Warriors, while Betsy Zanocco led the scoring for the Mustangs with 4 goals.
De La Salle 9, St. Viator 8: Zoe Green (3 goals) and Julie Warren (2) were the top scorers for the Lions in nonconference play.
