Endorsements: Glasgow, Rosenberg, Tinaglia, Baldino for Arlington Heights village board
The village board election in Arlington Heights got a bit, shall we say, complicated when Joe Favia, a presumptive winner, was forced off the ballot because of a tasteless joke he had made on social media.
Four seats are up for election. Three incumbents whose good judgment, dedication and qualifications are beyond dispute filed for re-election - Thomas Glasgow, Bert Rosenberg and Jim Tinaglia.
We heartily endorse all three. Arlington Heights is a well-run village, a model for other Northwest suburbs, and Glasgow, Rosenberg and Tinaglia are a big part of the reason why. They're attentive, responsive and hardworking, exemplary public servants who work collaboratively with others.
Longtime Trustee Joe Farwell decided not to seek another term, and it looked like the election would be uncontested when only Favia filed to join the three incumbents on the ballot.
With Favia's withdrawal, however, two newcomers have registered to run as write-in candidates: environmental chemist Richard Baldino and customer service representative Mark Walker, whom we hope voters would not confuse with the former state representative with the same name.
Neither write-in candidate has the credentials or the government expertise of the three incumbents.
But of the two, Baldino clearly is more knowledgeable and more apt to develop into a solid trustee. He deserves our endorsement and that of the voters.
We urge Arlington Heights voters to mark their ballots for Glasgow, Rosenberg and Tinaglia and then to write in Richard Baldino for the fourth board seat up for election.
