Chicago Marshall 3rd in girls 3A over Chicago Simeon

NORMAL, Ill. (AP) - Chicago Marshall regained its footing by beating Chicago Simeon 55-41 to capture third place in the girls 3A state finals.

The Commandos (33-1) on Saturday were led by Julliunn Redmond's 17 points. Tekia Mack added 11 and a game-high nine rebounds. Marshall had been undefeated until its semifinals loss on Friday.

Ganette Chism led the Wolverines (28-8) with 11 points. Destiny Zamudio added 10.

Marshall used its size advantage to outscore Simeon 34-20 in the paint. The Commandos were 21-43 (49 percent) from the field, while Simeon shot 42 percent (16-38).

Marshall took the lead 6-5 at 4:07 of the first period and never trailed, leading at the half 32-20.

Marshall lost to Rochester 46-35 in Friday's semifinals, and Morton beat Simeon 56-41.
