Des Plaines needs some relief from trains, too

The Daily Herald's concern for train traffic in Barrington is commendable. However, where was this concern when those same trains ravaged the quality of life in Des Plaines and other affected communities prior to CN purchasing the western route? I don't recall Sen. Durbin ever expressing concern, nor did then-Rep. Duckworth. Last week, over the course of an hour (noon to 1 p.m.) four trains interrupted traffic at the crossing near Rand and Graceland avenues in Des Plaines. Just because some trains are now routed to the west bypass doesn't mean prior issues with train volume were resolved on the east line.

We in Des Plaines routinely have to allow extra time when crossing town to arrive at an appointment.

Today, because trains are being routed west through a "leafy, peaceful community" it's a big concern? Des Plains and other not so "leafy" communities deserve to be served equally by the Daily Herald and the Surface Transportation Board to resolve railroad crossing issues in our communities as well.
