Get tips on 'Researching Colonial American Ancestors' Tuesday
The Elgin Genealogical Society will meet at 9:30 a.m. Tuesday, March 7, at the Gail Borden Public Library, 270 N. Grove Ave. in Elgin.
Jane Haldeman will talk about how to research your colonial ancestors.
Did your ancestors live in one of the original Thirteen Colonies? Were they here before the Revolutionary War? If so you possibly have Colonial American ancestors.
Each colonist came to the "new world" for different reasons and each colony was different. They come for both religious and economic opportunities. Find out what records are available and where they are so you can learn about your Colonial American ancestors.
Haldeman is a professional researcher, speaker, owner of It's Relative and author of "A Genealogist's Guide to Springfield, Illinois." She is former president of the Illinois State Genealogical Society.
The public is invited to attend all Elgin Genealogical Society meetings, the morning meetings are on the first Tuesday and evening meetings the third Thursday of the month. Visit www.elginroots.com.
