Daily Herald's Dann Gire presents a comedy showcase March 8, 22 at Dundee Library

The Dundee Library will welcome Daily Herald movie critic Dann Gire as he presents a two-part series on great comedy films.

At 7 p.m. Wednesday, March 8, "The Silent Era to the 1950s" will feature clips from classics such as Charlie Chaplin's 1931 film "City Lights;" the 1940 George Cukor comedy "The Philadelphia Story," starring Katharine Hepburn, Cary Grant and Jimmy Stewart, and the 1959 Billy Wilder comedy "Some Like It Hot," starring Marilyn Monroe, Jack Lemmon and Tony Curtis.

The fun will continue at 7 p.m. Wednesday, March 22 at when the longtime movie critic presents "The 1960s to the 21st Century" with clips from "The Nutty Professor," the 1993 Harold Ramis film "Groundhog Day," starring Andie MacDowell and Bill Murray, the 1974 Mel Brooks comedy "Young Frankenstein," starring Gene Wilder, Peter Boyle, Madeline Kahn and Teri Garr, and more.

Both programs are free and will be held at the Dundee Library, 555 Barrington Ave. (Route 68) in East Dundee.

The district serves residents of Carpentersville, East Dundee, West Dundee, Sleepy Hollow, Gilberts, and parts of Algonquin, Elgin, and Barrington Hills.
