NCH celebrates Heart Awareness Month
Northwest Community Healthcare is celebrating Heart Awareness Month in February with a free community event that will offer a heart-healthy cooking demonstration, blood pressure screenings and heart and vascular presentations from NCH physicians.
We're All Heart is scheduled from 5 to 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 28, at the hospital auditorium, 800 W. Central Road, Arlington Heights.
Festivities kick off with a live cooking demonstration by NCH Executive Chef Rosa Parks, who will create a heart-healthy dish featuring spices, rather than salt, to create a flavorful meal. Appetizers also will be served.
Attendees also can receive free blood pressure screenings. Beginning at 6 p.m., three NCH physicians will discuss heart and vascular health.
• Dr. Steven Lupovitch, a cardiologist, will discuss tips for a healthy heart and the importance of cardiovascular screenings.
• Dr. John Onufer, a clinical cardiac electrophysiologist, will present an overview on atrial fibrillation, an irregular heartbeat that increases the risk of stroke and heart disease.
• Dr. Sapan Desai, a vascular surgeon, will discuss vascular disease, which occurs when then the direction of blood flow in the arteries changes abruptly.
Registration is required by calling (847) 618-4968 or visiting www.nch.org/events.
