Rotary Club of Waukegan Celebrates Random Acts of Kindness Day

If you noticed that Waukegan is a little friendlier today, you're not alone - today is Random Acts of Kindness Day, and Rotary Club of Waukegan is celebrating by surprising people throughout the community with small, thoughtful acts of kindness. Random acts of kindness can be as small as buying coffee for a friend, leaving a closer parking space for someone else, or helping out with extra chores - although sometimes, a grander gesture is warranted! This year, past president Richard Lee bought flowers to brighten his staff members' week at Waukegan Public Library, where he is executive director.

There's still time to surprise your loved ones, coworkers, or strangers with a random act of kindness - tomorrow, Saturday, concludes a week-long celebration of kindness, and Rotarians do their part to make their local communities a better place all year long.

Waukegan's Rotary Club celebrated its centennial anniversary last October, and looks forward to continuing its support of area charities and service projects. Rotarians make a difference in Waukegan by volunteering with Feeding the Hungry at First United Methodist Church, where they serve dinner to those in need; coordinating cleanup of the Robert McClory Bike Path, ringing bells for the Salvation Army over the holidays; and participating in Operation Warm, which provides hundreds of winter coats, hats, and mittens to children in Waukegan School District #60.

The oldest Rotary club in district 6440, which serves northeast Illinois, the Rotary Club of Waukegan raises funds and donates service in support of community-wide needs, from literacy to domestic abuse. The Club celebrated its centennial in 2016. Rotary Club of Waukegan meets on Thursdays at noon at Bonnie Brook Golf Club, 2800 N. Lewis Ave., Waukegan.
