Cubs postcard: Blue man group

MESA, Ariz. - Pitchers and catchers have reported for Cubs spring training. Boy, have they ever.

As manager Joe Maddon took the practice field Wednesday for his team talk, he was greeted by no fewer than 40 pitchers.

"That was kind of large," he said. "It felt like it was full squad out there. Standing out there talking, looking at the faces, the numbers, you've got half-moon in front of you with the pitchers and catchers and the half-moon behind you with coaches and then you've got the other support group behind that. It was a crowded first day."

No worries. The Cubs will whittle down that number of pitchers to 12 or 13 by Opening Day.
