Make America great again?

For the many folks who support the mantra "Make America Great Again," I have a rather simple question. Just when was this nirvana you so desperately seek to recreate? And, are you sure it ever existed except in the Pollyanna memories of your mind or on the glib tongues of politicians?

To take it a step further, I am not quite sure how ANY of the initiatives put forth by Trump and the Republican Congress support, directly or indirectly, the concept of making America great. Will guns in the hands of people with mental issues help? Will filling creek beds and rivers with coal mining waste in West Virginia help? Will cutting slack for financial advisers help?

Will creating false and inflammatory issues around voter fraud help? Will supporting illegal settlements in the West Bank help? Will repealing the Johnson amendment help?

Will shutting down Obamacare help? Will alienating other countries, friend and foe alike, help? Will poorly implementing a flawed immigration strategy based on emotionally biased data help? The list goes on ad nauseam.

It is difficult, if not impossible, to understand how implementing any of these issues can do anything but create a huge negative impact on the greatness of America for decades to come. I would rather take a pass, thank you, and simply leave it that America is a great nation today, and if we don't mess it up, will be a great nation tomorrow.
