Des Plaines Church Supports Chicago's The Night Ministry

Sunday School students at First Congregational UCC of Des Plaines stuffed 48 stockings for The Night Ministry in December, with items donated by the congregation.

A Chicago-based organization that works to provide housing, health care and human connection to those struggling with poverty or homelessness, The Night Ministry serves the community through its Health Outreach Bus, Youth Outreach Van and Youth Shelter Network.

In December stockings are distributed to those served by the Night Ministry. Each stocking contains a toothbrush, toothpaste, deodorant, hand cream, hand warmer, gloves, socks, tissues, lip balm, a pen, a pad of paper, a deck of cards, and candy. In addition to the stuffed stockings, the church presented The Night Ministry with $700 raised through the congregation's Advent Coin Folders project, which collected $700 in quarters throughout the season of Advent.
