Preschoolers get an early jump on Valentine's Day in Round Lake
Valentine's Day was the theme Tuesday during the Preschool Picasso program at Round Lake Area Public Library.
Thirteen children ages 3 to 5 painted pictures using heart-shaped cookie cutters and finger paints, then worked on other Valentine crafts before putting their hands in an icy water sensory bin and playing with foam hearts and ice cubes filled with glitter.
"They are having a fun time, getting messy and experimenting with the paint," youth librarian assistant Denise Zajkowski said.
The program started with Zajkowski reading the book "Hugs and Hearts" by Toni Trent Parker. Kids then danced with beanbags to the song "Bean Bag Parade."
"The girls like it a lot," Lisa Beake of Round Lake said as she helped her 6-year-old twins, Hanna and Hope, paint hearts. "They like the mess they can make. It gets them excited for the holidays that are coming up."
