Carmel's 43rd annual Street Scenes Gala 'Spaces Out' Feb. 10-11

The 43rd Annual Carmel Catholic High School Street Scenes fundraiser will take place Feb. 10 and 11.

This year's theme is "Carmel Street Scenes Spaces Out," and the event will feature more than 50 local bands, comedy showrooms, the famous cabaret-style Student Show and a Las Vegas-style casino, plus food and drink. Tickets are $20 in advance or $25 at the door. Doors open at 6:30 p.m. each evening and the party will continue well past midnight. Entertainment will start at 7 p.m. and the last show each day will begin at 12:30 a.m.

Guests must be 21 or older to enter. Proceeds support Carmel Catholic's educational programs and mission.

This year's showrooms include: The Grayslake Show, Lake Zurich Show, Waukegan Show, Improv Playhouse, Karaoke Room, Magicians, Stand-Up Comedians, The Irish Pub and more.

The school gymnasium will be transformed into a Las Vegas-style casino with blackjack, poker, craps, roulette, a wheel of fortune and many other popular games. The casino opens at 8 p.m. on both nights and it is traditionally one of the hottest spots during Street Scenes weekend.

Food available for purchase will include: gourmet corned beef sandwiches, tenderloin sandwiches, pizza, gourmet pastries, Italian beef and much more.

Street Scenes will feature a wide variety of music from 50 local bands, including: Blind Logic, Metafire, Hot Sofa, Blush, Bellwether Blues, Plan B, Sneezy, Sagebrush, Passion & Fury, Kiley & Dalton, Zydeco Voodoo, The Twang, Stuck at Zero, The Mojo Daddies, The Inner Chi, The Dan Stark Band, Stu-Mr. Fantastic, Logi and the Finger, 3 If By Air and Six Speed Tranny, to name just a few.

An additional highlight of the evening will be the Cabaret-style Student Show in the auditorium, featuring a professionally-choreographed, one-hour performance featuring singing, dancing and amazing costumes, starring talented Carmel students.

"For an entry price of $25, where else can you go on a Friday and Saturday night and have the opportunity to be entertained by more than 50 different live bands, attend comedy shows, visit the Las Vegas style casino, and experience a professionally produced student show featuring the talents of Carmel students? Street Scenes is an event like no other and that's why it has stood the test of time for 43 years," Street Scenes General Chairman Bob Knudson said.

"My entire planning committee has worked behind the scenes for nine months to make sure we've addressed every detail to ensure another great Street Scenes extravaganza. I am very grateful for their commitment to the event and we are all looking forward to welcoming everyone to this year's event. It's the best thing that ever happened to February," he said.

The Street Scenes annual gala takes the collective effort of more than 1,000 adult and student volunteers to ensure success. For Carmel Catholic students, their major focus is to make the Ad Drive a success. Carmel Catholic parents and other adult friends lend their support to Street Scenes as entertainers, artists, bartenders, stage crews, electricians, short-order cooks, ticket sellers, printers, seamstresses, waiters and waitresses, setup and take down crews, and in many other ways, as well.

"Everyone in Lake County is cordially invited to participate in Street Scenes. It's a one of a kind event, there's really nothing else like it in Lake County and on behalf of the Street Scenes all-volunteer committee, we can basically guarantee everyone a great time," Knudson said.
