Records: Boy charged with murder fired shots as retaliation

GOSHEN, Ind. (AP) - A 14-year-old northern Indiana boy charged as an adult with murder allegedly fired gunshots at the victim's house as retaliation against a teenage girl who lived there, court documents say.

On Thursday, a judge entered a preliminary plea of not guilty for D'Angelo Honorable of Elkhart. He was waived into adult court last week in the fatal Nov. 30 shooting of 34-year-old Teketa Hixson of Elkhart.

Honorable threatened to get a gun and "take care of it" after having an argument with a teenage girl who lived in Hixson's home, court documents say. Someone tried to warn the victim's household that Honorable was on his way, but the warning came too late, according to the documents.

He fired four shots at the house, including one that struck Hixson, the documents say. Witnesses said they saw him with a gun both before and after the shots were fired, according to the documents.

Hixson was declared brain dead the day after the shooting and later removed from life support.

Police arrested Honorable about five hours after the shooting. Court records don't list an attorney for him.

Elkhart Circuit Judge Michael Christofeno ordered Honorable held without bond at the Elkhart County Jail and set a trial date of May 15. If convicted of murder, Honorable faces between 45 and 65 years in prison.
