Fraud claim just an excuse to steal voting rights
Our minority president has alleged that three to five million votes in the last election were fraudulent, cast by undocumented immigrants. He has offered no evidence for this other than that it is unthinkable that he could lose the popular vote, so the supposition is that he pulled them out of his whatever.
Now, we are faced with an enthusiastic Republican Congress, ready to believe him in this matter and eager to inflict more voter suppression laws on the country. There is only one reason for this: the Republican base is shrinking, and making it harder for citizens to exercise their right to vote keeps the turnout down, especially among those more likely to vote Democratic.
If the president and Congress were actually concerned with democracy and upholding the Constitution, they would instead make it easier for all citizens to vote by changing Election Day to the weekend or make it a holiday, implementing automatic voter registration, finding a way to allow internet voting and doing everything else in their power to encourage universal turnout.
Why make an outrageous claim without any evidence to back it up? I think the president is using this as an excuse to steal voting rights from millions of citizens.
