Limit politicians to one and done

Here is why politics, and in particular politicians, stink so much. They have to run for re-election.

To be re-elected they will not always do what is best for the country, but what will best help them get re-elected and carry on their lucrative political careers.

They will promise you almost anything, and they will spend tax revenues to make you happy, keep you happy, and basically buy your vote. And they can be influenced by lobbyists who contribute to their re-election.

The solution is simple. Politicians should never have to run for re-election.

That's right, never run while you are supposed to be doing your job anyway. One third of the Senate is elected every two years to six-year terms. The House should be elected the same way.

But that's it.

One term and you're done. No more running again. Six years and we appreciate your service which cannot be influenced by lobbyists, because you cannot run again.

There is such a depth of talent at the state and local level as well as at political organizations, which abound. We will not be short of people who are very knowledgeable, and who would be willing to go to Washington, D.C., and serve honorably and get things done.

Face it, some of the worst politicians are the lifelong career types, in both parties. Call it term limits if you wish, but the whole bunch would be much more honorable with one-and-done/
