Columbus police identify 2 dead following shooting, standoff

COLUMBUS, Ind. (AP) - Columbus police have identified the woman and man who died following a shooting and standoff.

They say officers responding to a report of gunfire about 9 p.m. Thursday found 43-year-old Kelly Baker of Columbus inside a vehicle suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. She later died at a hospital.

Police say a witness saw a man enter a home and heard a gunshot ring out a short time later. A SWAT team surrounded the home and used tear gas to attempt to coax him out without success.

Police sent a robot into the home around 2 a.m. and saw the man was dead inside a bedroom. He's been identified as 44-year-old Brian Mitchell of Columbus. Police aren't saying how he died.

Police haven't released details about the relationship between the two.
