Prospect, Fremd finish perfect MSL divisional runs
This year's Mid-Suburban League boys swimming and diving divisional champions both completed their runs with unbeaten dual meet performances Friday.
Prospect repeated as East Division champ by earning a 136-43 victory over host Elk Grove, while Fremd finished up with a 115-71 victory over Schaumburg after topping Barrington in a key matchup the previous week.
"Repeating as MSL East champions was one of our primary goals as a team when we started the season," said Prospect coach Alfonso Lopez. "The leadership of the senior class and the focus of the team as a whole were the catalysts to our success this season.
"It is fitting that they end their high school careers as one of the most successful senior classes in school history, having won the MSL East title three of their four years on the team."
Among those winning seniors were Nick Partipilo, who took top honors in both the 200-yard IM (2:09.14) and 100 fly (57.93).
Senior Matt Inserra stretched to a winning effort in the 500 free (5:23.38), and senior Anthony Liva took diving with a score of 272.15.
Other Knights winners included Asher Ginnodo in the 50 free (24.35), Ethan Rodriguez in the 100 back (1:02.82), Jacob Kosinski in the 100 breast (1:02.01) and Nick Lagowski in the 100 free (54.34).
Fremd's victory included a standout effort in the 50 free from Nick Nevins. In his final MSL home dual meet, he lowered his own pool record to 21.60.
Nevins won the 100 free (48.43), and the Vikings also counted wins from Alex Schillinger (200 free and 500 free), Zach Mega (diving) and Nick Seroni (200 IM and 100 fly).
Buffalo Grove d. Rolling Meadows: The host Bison completed a 4-1 run against their MSL East foes with a 101-85 decision.
Keys for BG were a 1-2 finish in the medley relay to start the meet and a 1-2-3 finish from divers Jack Delattre (261.25), Matthew Misch and Illie Vartic.
Rolling Meadows, which won both freestyle relays, had a pair of double individual winners as Josh Dellorto was tops in the 50 free (22.38) and 100 back (55.77) and Filip Pancerz took the 200 free (1:48.87) and 100 fly (55.84).
Buffalo Grove's Daniel Verdico won the 200 IM (2:08.97) and the 500 free (5:04.90), and the Bison got a key 1-2 finish in the 100 breast from Andy Gontko (1:10.29) and Korie Morris (1:10.48).
