Judson lecture series to welcome architect Hector Garcia Escorza Friday

As part of the SoADA Lecture and Exhibition Series, Judson University's School of Art, Design and Architecture will welcome Dr. Hector Garcia Escorza of Mexico to speak at 4:30 p.m. Friday, Jan. 27, in the university's Herrick Chapel, 1151 N. State St., Elgin. The event is free and open to the public.

Each year the School of Art, Design, and Architecture invites professional artists, designers and architects to visit the Judson University campus to display and lecture on relevant topics to the programs within the school. The lectures and exhibits are designed to complement classroom curriculum and to promote discussion and engage students in dialogue regarding issues prevalent to art, design, faith and culture.

Escorza earned an architecture credential at the National School of Architecture at the National Autonomous University of Mexico. He holds a master's degree in higher education from the Faculty of Higher Studies, Aragon (Mexico) campus, and he has a doctorate in Territorial Processes: Regional, City, Architecture, from the Faculty of Architecture, Autonomous University of Puebla in Mexico.

Escorza has taught students in the bachelor of architecture program at his alma mater, National Autonomous University of México-UNAM, since 1977. He also has held numerous leadership roles there and currently serves as head of the Urban Design and Planning Department.

He has written five books and more than 40 articles in specialized publications, books and magazines.

He has worked extensively in urban development at regional, state and sectorial levels throughout Mexico. He has provided architectural designs for single-family and multi-family housing units, churches and other facilities.

His SoADA presentation topic will be: "Vulnerability of the Megalopolis: An analysis of a society's habits based on culture; Mexico City traditional and contemporary."
