Two charged in Elgin car burglary
A judge Tuesday released a Chicago man and woman accused of working together to burglarize a vehicle in Elgin.
Francisco Mendoza, 20, of the 6400 block of North Paulina Street, Chicago, is charged with burglary to a motor vehicle and criminal trespass to a vehicle. Also charged in connection to the burglary is 20-year-old Jennifer Mandujano, of the same address. Mandujano faces charges of burglary to a motor vehicle, possession of a controlled substance and criminal trespass to a vehicle, The most serious charge against them, criminal trespass to a motor vehicle, is typically punishable by three to seven years in prison.
Officers from the Elgin Police Department responded at 1:39 a.m. Monday to the 100 block of Clock Tower Plaza for a report of a burglary to a motor vehicle. A witness told police he saw a man rifling through a vehicle and, with the help of a woman, placing items into a nearby car.
While officers met with the vehicle's owner, police received a second report of a car burglary, according to a news release.
Both Mendoza and Mandujano were released Tuesday from the Kane County jail on their signatures.
