Three new Apple iPads coming in 2017?

We're weeks into 2017, so it's high time for some fresh Apple rumors, wouldn't you agree? So today we have some news on Cupertino's 2017 tablet lineup.

Specifically, Apple is planning to release three new iPads in 2017, according to MacRumors. Citing analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, who has a strong track record with this type of thing, MacRumors on Sunday reported that Cupertino has a trio of tablets in the works for this year: a follow-up to the 12.9-inch iPad Pro, a more wallet-friendly version of its standard 9.7-inch model, and a third option with a "new bezel-free" design.

Kuo's note reportedly suggests that Apple is still mulling the size of the new bezel-free model. What is somewhat certain is that it will be a little bigger than the standard 9.7-inch model and a little smaller than the iPad Pro: sized between 10 and 10.5 inches.

"We note the 12.9" model will be the second generation of the existing 12.9" iPad Pro, the 10-10.5" model will be the high-end model equipped with a narrow bezel design, and the 9.7" model will be the low-priced option," Kuo reportedly wrote. "The former two models will have an A10X chip manufactured by TSMC … while the latter comes with an A9 chip made by Samsung LSI."

The only updates Apple made to its iPad lineup last fall were storage boosts and a few price drops, fueling rumors that the company might announce bigger changes this spring. Japanese blog Macotakara in October reported that Apple has a 7.9-inch iPad Pro in the works, potentially intended to replace the current iPad mini. As for what actually comes to pass, we'll just have to wait and see.
