Career-best for Connolly as Grayslake North rolls
James Connolly poured in a career-high 33 points, including a school record-tying seven 3-pointers, and Grayslake North's boys basketball team beat East Peoria 77-53 in its first of two games Saturday as part of Washington's MLK tournament.
Jamal Thomas dished out a school-record 15 assists and scored 14 points for the Knights.
Connolly's seven 3s in a game matched the school mark shared by former Knights Bobby Krebs and Aidan Einloth.
Grayslake North 59, Canton 50: At Washington, the Knights won their second game of the day to improve to 11-4 and 2-1 in the MLK tournament.
Wauconda 74, Round Lake 58: Jarod Stonis scored a game-high 22 points, including three 3-pointers, as the host Bulldogs won the Northern Lake County contest.
Kyle Drobnik added 16 points, 6 rebounds and 6 assists for Wauconda (6-10, 2-3). Brendan Tulley and Connor Brannick (three 3-pointers) had 10 and 9 points, respectively.
Round Lake (2-13, 0-5) received 14 points apiece from Chris Pierre and Lucas Hollingsworth.
Lakes 54, Antioch 44: Ian Haflinger's double-double of 21 points and 12 rebounds led the visiting Eagles to the Northern Lake County win.
Lakes (6-9, 2-3) led from start to finish and withstood an Antioch rally in the second half. Haflinger had a dominant second half, scoring 19 points in helping the Eagles stretch their winning streak to three games.
Dan Filippone scored 19 points for Antioch (6-8, 2-3).
North Chicago 69, Grayslake Central 47: Jack Spalding scored 17 points for the host Rams in Northern Lake County action.
Sidney Goodman had 9 point for Grayslake Central (6-10, 2-4).
North Chicago (5-0 NLCC) received 24 points from Tyrek Cooper and 13 from Simeon Henton.
Warren 80, Notre Dame 76 (OT): At Wheaton-Warrenville South's MLK tournament, in their first of two games Saturday, the Blue Devils prevailed in overtime, as Ian Schilling poured in 22 points, including six 3-pointers.
Warren also received double-digit scoring from Juwan Perry (17 points), Declan O'Connor (15) and Jayson Dorsey (13).
Warren 77, Oak Park 69: At Wheaton-Warrenville South, Juwan Perry scored 23 points, as the Blue Devils completed a 2-0 day in the MLK tournament, improving to 6-8 overall.
Jayson Dorsey and Branden Ellis each hit two 3-pointers and added 17 and 16 points, respectively, for Warren.
Addison Trail 68, Vernon Hills 41: At Lake Zurich, the Cougars lost their second game of the day, despite Chris Mariella's 21 points.
