Firefighters stop gas leak at Des Plaines office building
Des Plaines firefighters evacuated parts of a downtown building Friday morning after reports of the smell of gas.
The fire department went to the Clinical Associates Medical Services building, 1460 Market St., to investigate about 8:47 a.m., Fire Chief Alan Wax said. Firefighters tested the air and found gas in the building.
They entered wearing masks to investigate and determined a cooking unit in the Tap House Grill on the first floor had a small gas leak, Wax said.
"Our personnel shut off the unit, stopping the leak, and ventilated," Wax said.
The last firetruck left the scene about 9:20 a.m., he said.
