Carmel Catholic tops Nazareth for first ESCC victory

Johnny Roeser scored a game-high 22 points, and Carmel Catholic's boys basketball team picked up its first East Suburban Catholic Conference win of the season Friday night, edging host Nazareth 61-55.

Carmel (6-11, 1-2) trailed 39-37 after three quarters but used a 12-0 run the fourth. Brian Julien added 15 points for the Corsairs. Evan Myers and Lukas Galdoni added 9 and 7, respectively.

Glenbrook North 56, Vernon Hills 47: Jack O'Connell had 13 points and 7 rebounds in the visiting Cougars' Central Suburban North loss.

Jack Forester scored 12 points, including a pair of 3-pointers for Vernon Hills (3-15), while Payton Foster and Derrick Jones had 8 points apiece.

Washington 53, Grayslake North 35: At Washington, as part of the MLK tournament, the visiting Knights fell behind 19-7 after one quarter and never recovered.

Grayslake North fell to 9-4.
