Skokie Flyers Host Hornets Sled Team for Benefit Hockey Game
On January 8, 2017, from 7 to 9 pm at the Skokie Skatium, the Skokie Amateur Hockey Association, or Skokie Flyers, hosted the Hornets Youth Hockey team to a benefit hockey game. This game is an annual event for the Flyers organization as it seeks to help the Hornets raise money to help fund the Hornet's yearly operations.
The Hornets, formed in 2003 by their General Manager, JJ O'Connor exist to provide the hockey equipment and ice time free of charge for challenged and disabled hockey players. Benefit hockey games and donations are a primary source of revenue for the Hornets.
This year the Flyers, supported by the Skokie Park District and the Skokie Fire Department Honor Guard, played two Midget games before a large, receptive crowd. The fundraising goal for the night was $2,000. Donations accepted at the door were augmented by revenue generated from a wide variety of upscale raffle and auction items which included Blackhawks and Wolves tickets and signed memorabilia as well as gift baskets donated by the Flyers' teams.
