City of St. Charles' portion of property taxes in an 8-year deep freeze
Responsible financial stewardship has kept St. Charles' operating tax levy flat since 2009. The city is continuing that streak as aldermen unanimously approved another frozen operating levy at the Dec. 5 city council meeting.
The city's portion of your property taxes is less than 10 percent of your entire property tax bill. On a $300,000 home, that means $881 pays for a full year of city services, including police and fire emergency services, street maintenance and 24-hour snowplowing, planning, engineering, economic development, and more.
St. Charles has shown that a municipality can hold the line on taxes while still providing professional, reliable services and a well-maintained infrastructure. So, when your property tax bill shows up in your mailbox in a few months, be sure to take a look at the two line items labeled "St. Charles, City" as you review your total bill.
