Prospect Heights honors nature volunteer

Prospect Heights Mayor Nicholas Helmer has presented Karl Humbert with the city's National Resources Commission Volunteer of the Year Award, the Golden Loopers.

"The hard work and dedication you and all the volunteers put into this community make Prospect Heights the great city it is," Helmer said in presenting the award, according to the city newsletter.

The award is in recognition of Humbert's support of the mission of the Prospect Heights Natural Resources Commission and his countless hours of volunteering.

Humbert said he finds his volunteer work fulfilling.

"It is so rewarding to see wildlife like the bald eagle returning to the slough and knowing your work contributed to that," he said.
