Quartet jazzes up quiet Sunday at Grayslake library

The Grayslake Area Public Library was the hot spot in town for jazz fans Sunday.

Spectators watched and listened as pianist and composer Dave Flippo, along with his quartet of fellow musicians, performed a variety of jazz at the free, one-hour Friends of the Library Winter Concert.

"Jazz From Planet Flippo" featured original compositions and arrangements, including global jazz fusion and jazz arrangements of contemporary classics by the Beatles, Joni Mitchell, David Bowie and Sting.

Launched in 1992, "Jazz From Planet Flippo" has showcased its music on five CDs. Flippo, a Pittsburgh native, has lived and worked in Chicago as a composer, pianist, bandleader and teacher since 1987.
