New Des Plaines chamber director appointed

Andrea Biwer has been appointed as the new executive director of the Des Plaines Chamber of Commerce by its board of directors.

The Mount Prospect resident was most recently director of strategic partnerships for the Daily Herald Media Group, where she was honored for professional excellence with the Margie Paddock Flanders Sales Award. She previously served as vice president of business development at the Greater O'Hare Regional Business Association, program and event director at the Schaumburg Business Association, and manager of Choose Chicago at the Chicago Convention and Tourism Bureau.

Biwer's first day is Jan. 16. She replaces Barbara Ryan, 68, who died in July from lung cancer.
