Girl, 5, shot in head on New Year's Eve dies
INDIANAPOLIS (AP) - Indianapolis police say a 5-year-old girl hospitalized in critical condition after a shooting on New Year's Eve has died.
Authorities identified the girl on Wednesday as D'Asia Turentine. The girl was shot in the head around 2 p.m. Saturday at an apartment.
Authorities say they are investigating the possibility that the girl's 3-year-old brother may have shot her. Indianapolis police have said the shooting appeared "accidental in nature."
No charges have been filed, but Marion County prosecutors are reviewing the case.
The Indianapolis Star cites (http://indy.st/2hTNz8Z ) a police report that indicates officers were considering charging the girl's 23-year-old mother with child neglect.
