ESO guest violinist to lead master class for young musicians

Violinist Angelo Xiang Yu, the 2010 winner of the Yehudi Menuhin International Violin Competition, will present a master class from 10 a.m. to noon Saturday, Jan. 7, at the Gail Borden Public Library in Elgin.

The event, presented by the Elgin Symphony Orchestra and the Gail Borden Public Library, is free and open to the public.

Musicians participating in the class are Ida Claude, a junior at Whitney M. Young Magnet High School, performing the Bruch Violin Concerto, 1st movement; Ayumu Seiya, a freshman at St. Charles East High School performing the Rode Violin Concerto No. 7 in A minor, 3rd movement; and the Elgin Youth Symphony Orchestra Maud Powell String Quartet, with Stella Childs, violin, St. Charles East High School; Leah Benrubi, violin, Chicago; Colin Priller, viola, Arlington Heights, and Ernesto BaƱuelos, cello, Dundee-Crown High School, performing the Janacek String Quartet No. 1, 4th movement.

The master class is part of educational programming offered by the ESO during Classical Series concert weeks.
